Sensational videos of backcountry skiing with Tanner Hall

Tanner Hall speaks out for backcountry skiing and it makes you realise why these guys do what most people would think of as crazy stunts.

Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel

Tanner Hall, who comes from Montana and was born in 1983, is a world-renowned free skier. He has seven X Games gold medals spanning three disciplines, and Powder magazine named him as “the best skier in the world”. He is part owner of the snowcat ski hill Retallack in BC, Canada. He also co-founded Armada, a ski manufacturer, which has proven just how successful a rider-owned, rider-operated enterprise can be.

Have a look at what Retallak has to offer

Tanner Hall is coming back after several years of injuries – in March 2005 while attempting a switch 900 over the legendar Chad’s Gap in Wasatch backcountry, Utah, he pulled up short, hit the knuckle and then ragdolled down the landing, breaking both ankles, but he was back in 2006 to win gold at both the US Freeskiing Open and the Winter X-Games. Again in May 2009, he overshot a jump at Stevens Pass and  suffere tibial plateau fractures and ACL tears in both knees. He was back on  training on trampolines during summer 2010. How often have I said before…. you can’t keep a good man down?

The injuries may have kept him out of the limelight, but not out of the sport… he’s happy to be hitting the backcountry again.

It’s amazing to see what athletes like Tanner Hall are capable of, when pushing the limits of their sport! Retallack, BC is definitely on my bucket list of places to ski!
