Paul wasn’t able to fulfil his dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail, but the boots he left behind— polished and ready to go—are inspiring countless others.
Paul first discovered about the Appalachian Trail while living in Australia. He read about it, listened to podcasts about it, and constantly talked about it. He was obsessed with hiking the Appalachian Trail.
He was packed and getting ready to go when, sadly, his heart gave out. After awhile, Paul’s wife, M’Lynn, contacted The Dirtbag Diaries podcast to help find Appalachian Trail hikers who could make good use of his boots. Their producers at Duct Tape Then Beer reached out to REI to help spread the word. Now people Paul never met are strapping his boots to their packs and hiking sections of the AT. It’s too bad Paul’s not here to hike the trail himself, but we think he’d be pretty pleased that his size 13 boots are inspiring so many others.
