With the sanction of the IKA (International Kiteboard Association) the Kitesurf Tour Europe (KTE) will be having their grande finale of the season at St. Gilles Croix de Ville from 26th October – 1st November.
This is an event that will be hosting 73 kitesurfers from 14 European countries in freestyle and course racing which will be the culmination of several European contests throughout the year and will see the crowning of the European Champions on the final day.
St. Gilles, with its 3 and a half kms of sandy beaches, is one of the best kitesurfing (and surfing spots) in France and hosts several other kiteboarding world and French championship stops. It is on the Atlantic Ocean, about 80km west from Nantes and 100km north of La Rochelle.
The event itself is held at ‘La Grande Plage’ a sandy beach that wraps itself around the town. It’s the perfect locations as it works with every wind direction – even offshore, although the best wind directions are ususally South and West.
Current information is that 35 riders will compete in the men freestyle division, 15 in women freestyle, 24 in men’s course racing and 7 in the women’s course racing fleet. It is anticipated that more will register at the event site.
Most of the top-riders on the tour have guaranteed their participation including local French rider Seb Garat, German freestyle leader Mario Rodwald, the fastest European Julien Kerneur from France as well as Asia Litwin – freestyle women and Katja Roose – quickest European woman.
You can follow the events as they happen at the Kitesurf Tour Europe site.
