The Cribbar is rolling…
I’ve written about this beast once before and you can read that article if you follow this link, but, according to Tom Oliver who is a spectator of this wave off Fistral Beach, “It’s a big thing in a surfer’s life. They make sure that they are fit and healthy for this moment so they can’t miss it when it comes.”
The wave is a dream for big wave surfers. Modern technology such as weather track systems and meteorological data allow surfers to make sure they do not miss the opportunity. The wave works when a low spring tide combines with a south-east wind within the Cribbar, meaning ‘ploughed reef’, – a shallow reef found just off Fistral Beach. This huge surf break is a relatively rare occurrence – just a few times a year.
The Cribbar – North Cornwall
Conditions are exceptional at the moment – 60 ft waves! No wonder she’s also called ‘The Widow Maker’.
