Surfing again! But The Cribbar is rolling

The Cribbar is rolling…

I’ve written about this beast once before and you can read that article if you follow this link, but, according to Tom Oliver who is a spectator of this wave off Fistral Beach, It’s a big thing in a surfer’s life. They make sure that they are fit and healthy for this moment so they can’t miss it when it comes.”

The wave is a dream for big wave surfers. Modern technology such as weather track systems and meteorological data allow surfers to make sure they do not miss the opportunity. The wave works when a low spring tide combines with a south-east wind within the Cribbar, meaning ‘ploughed reef’, – a shallow reef found just off Fistral Beach. This huge surf break is a relatively rare occurrence – just a few times a year.

Conditions are exceptional at the moment – 60 ft waves! No wonder she’s also called ‘The Widow Maker’.
