RacingThePlanet’s roving race starts today in Jordan

RacingThePlanet: Jordan 2012

There are some impressive statistics already about RacingThePlanet:  Jordan 2012.

  • 24 members of the 4 Deserts Club are going to be competing;
  • Jesse Yoo of Korea will be aiming to complete a record breaking 16th RacingThePlanet event;
  • James Gaston of the USA is trying to be the only competitor in 2012 to complete every kilometre of the 1250km of RacingThePlanet and 4 Deserts events
  • Nearly 70% of the field of competitiors in Jordan are RacingThePlanet veterans.

With an eye on the favourites, it is thought that former race champion Paolo Barghini of Italy will be be setting the pace, with German Rafael Fuchsgruber, Hong Kong based Briton Peter Lee and Darren Nichols of Canada also expected to run well. For the ladies it’s got to be a tough race between the talented Katia Figini of Italy, Lucy Marriott of the UK and Natalia Sierant of Poland.

  • There are an astonishing 18 competitors attempting to complete the 4 Deserts Grand Slam this year and all passed the first test in the Atacama desert last month. James Gaston will also compete in Jordan in an attempt to become the youngest person to complete all five RacingThePlanet events in a calendar year.
  • Team JDRF Born to Run of Australia is the only team aiming for the the Grand Slam.
