And it’s certainly not the weather for kitesurfing. Not here in the south of France anyway. Day after windless day passes, with a couple of moments of excitement when we think there’ll be wind – sure enough there is, but Mistral with severe gusts… hopeless. And hot. Soooo hot.
So our thoughts turn to wakeboarding … All you need is a boat… and your board.
Hyperlite, manufacturers of everything you need for wakeboarding, has its very own extreme wakeboarding team and in July team member Raimi Merritt, a member of the girls team, recently took the top podium spot in Milan, Italy at the IWWF Wakeboard World Championships with some superb unbeatable moves.

It’s going to take a bit of time before you’re wakeboarding like the Hyperlite girls and boys, but one can dream!
The fabulous Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi has just been chosen as the venue for the WWA Wake Park World Championships. This is the pinnacle of the WWA Wake Park World Series, the longest-running professional and amateur cable tour in the world. Registration will be open to all riders beginning 1st September and the Championships dates are scheduled for 7th – 10th December, 2011.
“After a visit to Al Forsan, it was immediately evident that this was the place to hold the world’s largest cable event and its best riders,” said WWA president Shannon Starling. “Quite simply, it is the most amazing cable park and sports facility ever created. You have to see this place — and ride it — to believe it.”
The Al Forsan International Sports Resort, in the heart of Abu Dhabi, in Khalifa City, has the newest, most innovative cable facility ever built. The 15 million-square-foot sportsman’s paradise features two freshwater cable lakes with clockwise and counterclockwise full cable systems, a two-tower unit and first-of-its-kind filtration system. For those of you familiar with Abu Dhabi you will have immediately realised that the chosen site is right next door to the famous Yas Island — home of Ferrari World and the Abu Dhabi F1 racetrack – the modern heartbeat of the city!
“The goal of Al Forsan is to be the world’s finest sports resort by hosting the premier events and athletes,” said Atef Nagib, the Managing Director of Al Forsan International Sports Resort. “Our partnership with the WWA will position Al Forsan as the destination for the world’s top cable wakeboard athletes, and we simply cannot wait to show the world’s best amateur and professional riders this facility.”
