Innsbruck, Austria is the setting for Billabong Air & Style 2012 and it officially started today, 4th February. This is, of course, the 6 Star TTR Big Air Title competition where the world’s best snowboarders will fight it out to see who is the champion. According to a comment on Twitter “Weather is great – Sun is shining in Bergisel. Be prepared for cold weather!” They’re lucky… most of the rest of us in Europe are frozen solid and snowed in!
Some of the biggest names in snowboarding will be competing for one of the ultimate prizes in the sport: the’ Ring of Glory’!

Last year Mark McMorris from Canada take his first Air & Style win. In the 4 man Super Final in front of 11,000 spectators at the soldout Bergisel Stadium he won with a Cab 1260 Double Cork. Peetu Piroiinen came second and Austrian Werner Stock, third. Nils Arvidsson was the surprise finalist coming in 4th.
The Air & Style format has been slightly changed this year to provide more excitement for both the riders and the crowd. 12 riders will battle it out in the qualification round to get one of 4 spots that will take them through to the main field with the 12 invited riders.
The draw of the first round pairs for Air & Style, Innsbruck 2012 looks like this:
Sebastien Toutant / CAN (2) vs. 4. qualification rider
Seppe Smits / BEL (3) vs. Yuki Kadono / JPN
Werner Stock / AUT (4) vs. 2. qualification rider
Nils Arvidsson / SWE (5) vs. 1. qualification rider
Ulrik Badertscher / NOR (6) vs. Eero Ettala / FIN
Staale Sandbech / NOR (7) vs. 3. qualification rider
