Mountain Biking in Shropshire with Rob Smith

Rob Smith, a registered Bike Ability cycling instructor who works for the Shropshire Council teaching cycling, is a pro-downhill mountain biker who has competed in the Elite DH category for the past five years, and will be competing again in 2011. In 2010 he competed in events all over the UK ranging from Fort William in Scotland to South Wales. He has also competed abroad in the World Cup series in such locations as Leogang in Austria, Champery in Switzerland and Val Di Sole in Italy. He rides for Airbrushperfections.com, Forgoodnessshakes.com, Michelin and Plain Lazy.

However, home is Shropshire and the Shropshire trails, where apart from teaching cycling to all ages he also instructs with mountain bike coaching days at the Shropshire Hills Mountain Bike and Outdoor Centre where there are wonderful mountain bike trails. In fact one of the trails, Minton Batch (Batch is a local word for gully) is regularly featured in MBR and What Mountain Bike magazine as one of the best single track descents in the UK – a 2.5 mile intermediate descent on single track and fireroads – and its only minutes away from the centre.

The area has a wide variety of trails to suit all standards in a region of great natural beauty with its series of hills and gullies and its stunning views. Pole Bank, the highest point of Long Mynd is 516 metres above sea level and on a good day Snowdon, Cadair Idris and the Brecon Beacons can easily be seen as can the Malvern hills to the south.

The Shropshire Hills Mountain Bike and Outdoor Centre will be hosting round 3 of the Chain Reaction cycles MTB Marathon and Cycleops Road Sportive on the 2nd & 3rd July. For Further information and to download your entry form please follow the link…
