I’m rushing this out to let you know of Les 2 Alpes festival which has kicked off the 2008 summer season to a fine start – glacier skiing opened its doors on the 14th June to excellent conditions and now the Mondial VTT festival has rolled into town – thanks to Caroline Face of 2Alpesnet.com for bringing this news.
This year celebrates the 5th edition of the show dedicated to all things mountain bike. It’s now a huge event, with an 12000sq metre exhibition area with all the big names taking part. And yes, it’s one of the first chances to check out the gear for the 2009 season from shining lights such as Santa Cruz, Specialized, Trek, Orange, Gary Fisher and many more component, clothing and accessory manufacturers too.
The festival started on Thursday afternoon and runs until Sunday evening. There’s opportunities to test all the latest gear (be warned that a deposit will have to be left of ID and cheque for 4000 euros), go on rides with the pros and watch demos too.
Riding with the Pros is an excellent idea and the terrain in Les 2 Alpes offers a massive range of riding from 3200 to 700m in altitude and the lift pass costs just 10,50 euros per day. New for this year is the chance to ride with Specialized riders in the special Specialized single track run through the pine trees.
If you fancy pitting your riding skills in a competition, there’s the open trials on Saturday and Sunday, with the finals taking place on Sunday afternoon. If you enter you could win a piece of the 4000 euros prize money (enough to buy that new Gary Fisher Hi-Fi in pink for laydees that we’ve been eyeing up!).
There’s also plenty to keep kids amused with an intro to mountain biking park in association with UCPA that’s open to kids from five years old.
The fun doesn’t stop with the closing of the lifts each day. On the Friday and Saturday there’s a film festival each evening keeping you entertained with some great mountain biking footage. Of course, with so many people in town passionate about mountain biking, it’s always a great atmosphere with lots going on in resort.
I’ve included this video from YouTube of mountain biking at les 2 Alpes for your enjoyment.
