This is the third time that AdventureCORPS have held this ultra-cycle event and it has been organised to take maximum advantage of the magnificent Death Valley National Park – a region not only to be visited because there’s a cycle race there, but also a wonderful place to spend the weekend. With this in mind, AdventureCORPS are staging an outdoor yoga class on Friday and have organised a Sunday morning hike in Golden Canyon.

However, back to the Hell’s Gate Hundred…

This 100.7 mile race will have  an 8,500 feet  elevation gain…

Hell's Gate Hundred held in Death Valley national Park has a total elevation of 8,500 ft.

… the ultimate challenge for elite cyclists. The route starts and finishes at Furnace Creek in California but crosses the state boundary into Nevada to take in the ghost town of Rhyolite although, if you are wanting to do the 100 kms (65 miles) and not the 100 miles, you will turn around at Hell’s Gate and not go over Daylight Pass to Rhyolite.

Last year’s event event was thoroughly enjoyed by participants, many of whom will be back for this one. “My first century and it was a blast. the support staff was great and the course was well worth the challenge. I’m hooked. See ya in the spring!” said Todd Turner.

“I loved the event. This new route showed me parts of Death Valley I was never exposed to before. Artist Drive was a nice treat. Also knowing that there is a 16 mile climb just 11 miles from the Furnace Creek Ranch is very good for future training. I’ve been doing the spring and fall double centuries since 2003. I like the diversity of this century route: Great climbs and being able to see riders continuously throughout the route,” said another.
