re-sized british heart foundation bike ride

A new 82-mile bike ride in England in aid of the BHF

Scheduled for the 11th September, the London to Southampton Bike Ride will be a beautiful and challenging 82-mile (130 km) route organised to celebrate the 50th birthday of the British Heart Foundation.

The ride will be restricted to 100 places, so it will be very much on a first come first serve basis.

The route will take you from the 08.00 a.m. start (although registration begins at 07.15) at Bushy Park from where “you will head south of Walton on Thames and Weybridge and then hit the delights of the Surrey and Hampshire countryside, passing through or nearby Hersham, Cobham, Ockham, East Clandon, Shalford, Compton, Rowledge, Binsted, Ropley, Durley, Snakemoor and then across the Itchen Bridge into Southampton.”

If you sign up (and why not?) you will be asked to raise at least £50 for the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal and an incentive is offered for those who raise more that the minimum 50 quid:

  • If you raise £150-249*, we (The British Heart Foundation) will offer you priority entry into one of our 2012 Night Ride events. Choose from London to Brighton in May or Manchester to Blackpool September and shine a light on heart disease.
  • If you raise £250 or more*, we (BHF) will offer you priority entry to the legendary London to Brighton Bike Ride. Places sell out in a matter of hours, so this is your chance to be on the start line in 2012.

There is a minimum age for this ride I’m afraid – no under-16’s, otherwise it is the perfect challenge for both intermediate and experience riders alike. You will need to do some training and a good level of fitness will stand you in good stead. This is in AID of the Heart Foundation, they do not want to be fixing broken hearts en route!!!
